Freeship is developed to offer an alternative to hullform definition programs based on NURB surface modeling. Most hull modeling packages use these parametric spline surfaces which can be very tricky to use. Freeship uses subdivision surfaces instead, which offer many advantages over NURB surfaces, such as: no need for a rectangular control grid divided into rows and columns; more freedom in modeling knuckle lines; surfaces can contain holes; even the most complex shapes can be created with just one surface; the possibility to insert just one single control point.
DELFTship™ free is a slightly simplified version of the professional program but otherwise fully functional. Some of the more advanced features or file export formats have been disabled in this free version but for the rest both versions are completely the same. Files created by either version are also 100% exchangable. DELFTship™ free is perfectly suited for students or home users who like to design and visualize ships in 3D or need to perform hydrostatic and resistance calculations.
Assign different parts of the surface to layers
Locking and unlocking of controlpoints
Add marker curves to compare the hull to other lines (for example obtained from offsets)
Add background images to easily reproduce an existing linesplan
Stations, buttocks, waterlines and diagonals are calculated from the 3D model and updated realtime when a controlpoint is changed.
3D scaling, moving and rotating (part of) the model.
Add controlcurves to the model to facilitate fairing of knuckle lines or interior parts of the surface
Visualize curvature plot of conrolcurves and intersection curves (stations)
Automatic fairing of controlcurve
Automatic fairing of surfaces
